Authentic Texas-Style BBQ Finds its Way to Rhode Island's Biggest City At Durk's

By Kelly Church

In Providence, RI, residents and guests can revel in authentic Texas barbecue without making the trek down south. Durk's serves authentic cuisine for meat-eaters and vegetarians alike. Stefanie Carr is one of the owners of Durk's restaurant and offers rave reviews of many classic dishes.

"Our menu features authentic, Texas-style barbecue that is high on flavor and low on pretense," Carr said. "Marked by a dry-rub spice blend and eight to 14 hours cooking low and slow over local oak in Stella, our old hickory smoker, Durk's barbecue is the best you can get outside of the Lone Star state."

Carr describes the barbecue options on the menu as "melt-in-your-mouth" with meat options of all kinds. Meats can be ordered by the half-pound, with brisket, pork belly, chicken legs, pulled pork and sausage as options. Pork ribs are also available by the bone, as a half-rack or a full-rack.

Customers can also choose from a variety of sandwiches if they prefer to have their meats between bread with toppings. The pulled pork sandwich features a potato roll with coleslaw and barbecue sauce. Brisket, fried chicken and sausage sandwiches are also available.

"Rounding out the meal are a roster of classic sides, including made-to-order cornbread, blast-from-the-past pimento cheese, cooling coleslaw and rich potato salad," Carr said. "Leaving guests to end on a sweet note are old school hits like banana pudding and lemon chess pie."

The Durk's menu is available for catering events, with several options that serve anywhere from 25 to 75 people. Catering packages offer an assortment of brisket, pulled pork, sausage and chicken. Guests also get to try street corn, bread, Durk's pickles and several side dishes. All side dishes at Durk's are cooked with vegetarians in mind, so guests with most food preferences can still enjoy a Durk's meal.

"Our catering allows clients to enjoy the best tasting barbecue without having to cook it themselves," Carr said. "We also gladly provide the barbecue-serving essentials: utensils, plastic serving wares, chaffing dishes, sternos, napkins, knives, paper plates and the all-important face wipes. Perfect for Sunday night football parties, outdoor get-togethers and all types of celebrations, we can't wait to bring your crew some Durk's barbecue."

Guests can order Durk's online and even have it delivered. Durk's also offers gift cards. For more information and to see the restaurant's specific catering options, visit durksbbq.com.
