There are few tasks more fraught for parents than finding good child care. Parents are rightfully concerned for their child's safety, education, emotional development, and enjoyment. While the cost of quality child care can be astonishing, most parents will sacrifice greatly to ensure that their child is in the best possible environment for them. In Cranston, RI, however, The Children's Workshop makes this difficult task much simpler. The Children's Workshop has developed and scaled a model of child care that promotes learning through fun, small-group activities. Their family centered approach builds partnerships with parents and children that ensure children get all the care they need.
The Children's Workshop offers full service child care, ranging from all day Preschool programs to before and after school programs for school aged children. "We fulfill the need of constant care in the area," says Marcie Warner, Director of The Children's Workshop. "When many schools close due to snowfall, we are open. We only close if the Governor declares a State of Emergency."
Constant Care and similar commitments demonstrate The Children's Workshop's dedication to creating and maintaining close partnerships with parents. "We are a family-owned, family-focused company," explains Warner. "We build partnerships with our families, because parents are the most important component of their child's life and an integral part of their child's educational experiences."
The family-focused nature of The Children's Workshop improves every aspect of their relationship to the child and parents. For example, many parents don't have the jobs with flexibility to leave for half an hour at a time periodically. To help parents with this difficult problem, the Cranston Children's Workshop even provides transportation to and from school for children in the before and after school programs.
But the true center of The Children's Workshop's excellence is their dedication to exploratory, enjoyable learning and care. With the help of certified teachers and attention to significant developmental milestones, The Children's Workshop creates a unique environment where play is suffused with learning.
"We provide our students with hands on experiences, which are proven to develop cognitive, physical, social and emotional, and language skills," says Warner with pride. Teachers encourage appropriate exploration and collaboration during every activity. "Students participate in activities ranging from science experiments, to sensory play, to music and movement, and many more," notes Warner.
In addition to the curriculum, The Children's Workshop of Cranston offers a number of family events each year. "We not only have school-specific events, which are hosted at TCW Cranston," Warner explains, "but we have company-wide events, located at a number of different places, ranging from Roger Williams Park Zoo to The Dunkin Donuts Center." They also offer a Parents' Night Out twice a year where the Workshop provides free care for two hours after normal closing, totally open to any children in the community! "We had over thirty children attend and our teachers hosted a pizza and pajama party complete with art activities, music, and a winter-themed movie," says Warner.
This level of attention to detail paired with enthusiasm for learning is what makes The Children's Workshop in Cranston such an extraordinary place, both for children and parents. Cranston parents are fortunate to have such an institution, and their children will likely recall their early years there with fondness for many years to come.
