Davina Holistic Center Uses Reiki Treatment to Heal and Transform Lives

By Pamela Sosnowski

If the idea of having acupuncture needles inserted into your skin makes you apprehensive of the treatment, then you may want to give reiki a try. The non-invasive Japanese healing technique, which has existed for at least a century, manipulates energy in the body without the use of needles. At Davina Holistic Center of Pawtucket, owner and founder Naglaa Gaafar offers several reiki services to treat a variety of conditions from headaches to depression.

"Anyone who is looking for an energy healing modality to complement their medical treatment or psychotherapy (can try reiki)," Gaafar said. "Reiki works effectively on relieving pain, anxiety, and coping with depression."

Reiki is similar to acupuncture in that it is based on the belief that energy flows within the body along pathways, or meridians, and that when these meridians become blocked it leads to discomfort and even disease. Unblocking or redirecting the energy can encourage healing. Unlike acupuncture, however, the energy manipulation occurs when the practitioner places his or her hands over the client and lightly touches them instead of using needles. Clients remain fully clothed throughout a session.

Davina Holistic Center offers several variations of reiki to suit clients' needs. There's a reiki package specifically to treat individuals recovering from physical injury and another called Grief Assistance Reiki that helps with the emotional pain of losing a loved one. A 90-minute anxiety reduction session can help rebalance and clear energy blockages that can cause stress.

The type of reiki that Gaafar administers is known as holy fire reiki, an innovative technique introduced only a few years ago.

"It is both powerful and gentle and provides purification, healing, empowerment and guidance," Gaafar said. "Holy Fire energy is noticeably more refined and comes from a higher level of consciousness."

Gaafar, who is licensed and certified in reiki and is also a self empowerment coach, founded Davina Holistic Center to provide an alternative method of pain and stress relief to the Pawtucket community. From a young age, she developed an interest in holistic treatments and a curiosity about energy within the human body. In addition to running her center, she teaches reiki and self awareness at colleges worldwide.

The center's five-star reviews attest to the healing powers of reiki. Gaafar's clients rave about her warmth and ability to listen to their needs in addition to the soothing, sun filled treatments rooms. Davina Holistic Center is open seven days a week for treatment sessions, and also hosts events and classes throughout the year. Gaafar welcomes anyone curious about the treatment to give it a try.

"I started my Reiki practice to assist and serve individuals who have made a conscious commitment to their health and well being," she said. "Reiki has been a blessing in my life and greatly helped me deal with difficult situations in my path. I hope I can be of service to others in the same way. My goal also is to help individuals deepen their understanding of themselves and their own power."
