Eddie's BBQ: Brotherly Love in the BBQ World

By Elisha Neubauer

Steven Mclaughlin is the proud owner of his very own business in Narragansett, Rhode Island. But, unlike most business owners, he opted not to name the business after himself.

When it came time to name his BBQ food truck business, Steve Mclaughlin thought long and hard about what he should name it. Then it hit him: Eddie's BBQ.

While it may seem odd that a man named Steve has named his business Eddie's, there is actually a lot of meaning behind the unusual nomenclature. Eddie is Mclaughlin's older brother.

"Eddie is a special kind of guy who has taught Steve a lot over the years," Mclaughlin said. "He has taught Steve to be patient and kind, to always see what new and exciting things can be discovered each day, and to smile even when the times are tough."

What started out as a food truck business blossomed, becoming a brick and mortar restaurant in 2014. The food sticks with a comfort food theme, including the typical pulled pork, pulled chicken, beef brisket and pork ribs. However, at Eddie's, they like to do them a little differently.

"Most BBQ places just serve the meats and sides," Mclaughlin said. "We take it a step further and offer such menu items as Pulled pork or Pulled Chicken Burritos, Brisket grilled cheese, pulled pork grilled cheese and one of our most popular items the Mighty Mac which is a pulled pork grilled cheese with mac and cheese right in the sandwich."

They also serve meat and side combo platters and a fried chicken platter, ensuring there is something for everyone.

When it comes to their cooking techniques, faster isn't better. They prefer to slow it down, take their time, and allow the meat to cook until it is truly done.

While the restaurant runs all year round, the food truck is available from April to December for events and catering gigs.
