Lifetyme Exteriors Painting Products: An Interview with Rick Dudley of Lifetyme Exteriors

By Rick Dudley

Tell us a bit about your company and its foundation.

Lifetyme Exteriors has been around for 11 years, and over the course of that time we have treated over 3,000 homes with our permanent exterior coating system.

What services does your company offer?

We offer a system of products that are applied to a home's exterior that gives the finished look of traditional house paint but comes with a lifetime warranty. This warranty covers both materials and labor.

Our process starts out with a house wash and thorough preparation in the way of scraping, sanding, paint stripping, and carpentry work as required on that particular project. We then install an industrial grade sealant (caulking) that is guaranteed never to shrink or crack like traditional painters caulk. Once this is done, our crew performs a walk through with the customer to make sure all prep work has been done to his/her satisfaction. This is followed by a full coat of our bonding agent primer, and 2 finish coats of our Lifetyme Smart Color material that is thicker, more breathable, and more flexible than traditional paint.

Please tell us more about the exterior painting products you offer:

Our Smart Color product comes in any color, and looks just like traditional house paint. It is designed not to crack, peel, chip, flake, or have any of the issues that are synonymous with house paint. Its thickness allows it to hold up better against the New England weather, the breathability allows moisture from inside your home to pass through the walls, and the flexibility allows it to expand and contract along with the home's exterior.

What are the benefits of these products for homes located in the North East?

Our Smart Color system of products is specifically designed for New England weather where we have cold winters, hot summers, and everything in between during the spring & fall seasons. These wide temperature swings put a great deal of stress on the exterior of a New England house and our Smart Color is engineered to thrive in such conditions. Whether the house is located on top of a mountain, on the ocean or anywhere else, Smart Color is the best available product.

Is the process of applying Lifetyme longer than the process of applying typical exterior paint?

An average project takes between 1-2 weeks, depending on the size of the structure and the scope of work. It is generally slightly longer than a traditional paint job, but every project is different. We take a great deal of pride in the entire process, from the preparation work to the finish coating, so we make certain the customer is 100% satisfied before leaving.
