Medi-Weightloss Program is 'The One That Works'

By Kelly Church

For the last decade, Medi-Weightloss has helped men and women regain control over their bodies through control calorie and carbohydrate intake, managed by physicians. The company is based out of Tampa, FL, but has offices all over the country, including California, Texas and Rhode Island.

"At Medi-Weightloss, we work individually with each patient to design a plan around their goals, medical history, current health status, and food and exercise preferences," Laurie Telfer-Whelan, Nurse Practitioner for Medi-Weightloss at the Warwick, Rhode Island location, said.

Through journaling, nutrition plans, vitamin injections, supplements, prescription anti-obesity medications and more, the physicians at Medi-Weightloss help each patient reach their goals. Patients are held accountable through follow-up visits where progress is tracked.

"The Medi-Weightloss program is clinically proven and, on average, patients lose 14 pounds the first month," Telfer-Whelan said. "We also help patients learn how to keep the weight off with our maintenance and wellness programs."

Nutritional guidance is a big part of Medi-Weightloss success. Telfer-Whelan said patients eat from an approved list of foods, accommodating many different palettes and food preferences. When clients join the weight loss program, they can access to Medi-Weightloss's patient portal with recipes and more.

"Each patient receives a caloric prescription and there are both structured and flexible meal planning menus," Telfer-Whelan said. "We teach our patients about how the body utilizes protein, carbohydrates and fat for energy. Our nutrition plan is designed to help our patients burn their stored fat for fuel while preserving their lean muscle mass."

The science behind Medi-Weightloss success is based in calorie restriction, with high amounts of protein and other nutritious food sources. All programs are supervised by a physician and start with a full consultation, including blood work and an EKG. Based on this information and the patient's health and wellness goals, a nutrition and fitness plan is recommended.

"Achieving a healthy weight can also reduce your risk for developing countless chronic health conditions, such as high cholesterol, blood pressure and Type 2 diabetes," Telfer-Whelan said. "I'm proud to work at Medi-Weightloss because our program really is the one that works."

Medi-Weightloss has programs for overweight adults, adolescents and one specifically for Type 2 diabetics. There is also a corporate wellness program available for businesses that want to help employees achieve overall health and wellness.
