MUSE: Inspiration In Unique Forms

By Elisha Neubauer

MUSE. When defined, it means a person or personified force who is the source of inspiration for a creative artist.

For Elizabeth Jarvis, her muse was the range of American artists and craftsmen. Although Jarvis had always been obsessed with jewelry, she didn't start out with the intention of opening her own shop. When Jarvis began first selling her own jewelry line, she did so as a wholesaler, meaning she sold to other shops at a discounted price in bulk quantities. She did not sell her line to the public directly.

In her late 20s, Jarvis came to the sudden realization that she coveted the idea of having her own shop. The idea seemed to fit her personality better, and before long, she dreamed up MUSE. She followed a less is more approach when it came to launching the business, allowing each individual unit to sell itself based on quality, not quantity as the chain stores of the nation do today.

MUSE carries products which are handmade and crafted by American artists. She wanted to advocate for her fellow artists and craftmakers, giving them a way to bridge the gap between themselves and the public.

"We pride ourselves on the fact that we carry very unique items, none of which are mass produced or the product of unfair labor laws," Jarvis said.

A sampling of the products available at MUSE includes custom jewelry, wedding bands, and engagement rings in 14k gold, platinum, and titanium. Also in stock is a wide selection of Sterling Silver and 14k gold necklaces, earrings, rings, bracelets, and cuff links. In addition, shoppers can find a hand-selected collection of baby gifts, cards, and personalized gifts.

"We are passionate about the importance of art in everyday life and believe that we can help elevate the appreciation of the arts in our community by providing a space for talented artists to sell their work," said Jarvis.

MUSE is currently the only store in the Rhode Island/Massachusetts area to solely focus on providing only American handcrafted jewelry and gifts.

"Jewelry has always been the love of my life," said Jarvis. "Supporting the arts in America has become my passion."
