Start From Scratch At Scratch Kitchen & Catering

By Elisha Neubauer

For Kyle Bennett, of Scratch Kitchen and Catering in New Port, Rhode Island, it was always about the basics.

Wanting something he could call his own, where he could go into business on his own terms and follow his own direction, he launched Scratch Kitchen & Catering along with his sister Stef Bennett.

"I enjoy the freedom to design my own menu and set the parameters of my position," Bennett said. "As a career chef, this is a rare privilege."

Bennett works in an open kitchen setting, which gives him the opportunity to interact with customers in a way which many other restaurants are unable to provide. As customer service is a major factor in Bennett's business model, having this ongoing interaction is vital.

As for the menu, Bennett and his team try to offer a wide range of tastes, varieties, and alterations of old favorites.

"I would describe the menu as eclectic comfort food, focused on gourmet grilled cheese and mac & cheese combinations," Bennett said. "We also have a regularly rotating homemade soup menu, and we do a wide variety of breakfast items which, along with the lunch menu, we serve all day long."

While their regular dining is most popular, the company does offer a diverse assortment of catering options, as well.

For specialized events, such as weddings, graduations, retirements, etc., they provide sit-down consultations prior to the event to design a menu suited to the individual needs of the clients. Every event is different, everyone has different tastes, and Scratch Kitchen and Catering understands that completely. To accommodate all tastes, styles, and types of events, menus are tailored specifically per event.

"In short, if you can dream it, we can cook it," Bennett said. "We provide full service catering, drop off delivery, or pick-up, all tailored to our clients' needs."
