Why You Should Choose Environmentally Friendly Pest Control: An Interview with David Jones of Bio Tech Pest Controls

By Amy

Please tell us a little bit about your company and the services you offer.

We are a pest control company that does not use toxic chemicals to kill pests. We care about our customers and their families and the environment we all live in. If traditional pest control and using pesticides works, why should homeowners choose an environmentally friendly solution instead?

Most traditional chemical pesticides also do harm to birds, fish and mammals including us. It figures that if you kill an insect with a toxic chemical that any other creature such as a bird that eats that insect will also become affected and may eventually die. Has anyone noticed there are so many fewer birds and bees around now. How many Monarch butterflies do you see?

The ease of use of toxic chemicals also kills off billions of non-pest insects such as bees, butterflies and many other pollinators. Just read the labels to see how toxic and dangerous these products are. By the way, your current service provider is required by law to give you the label and MSDS (safety sheet).

Can you briefly describe what environmentally friendly pest control means?

Integrated Pest Management is a good term to define our approach. We use the least amount of insecticides possible to control the target population. We do not set out to exterminate everything.

How does the effectiveness of chemical pesticides compare to eco-friendly treatments?

We use plant oils and borates as our main approach plus other nontoxic methods. All pests have a neurotransmitter called octopamine. Plant oils naturally disrupt this process, thereby killing the pest. No other life form has octopamine.

Termites, ants slugs, snails and many other creepy crawlies will die if they ingest borates. Mammals need borates as part of our daily diet. So it is safe for us but deadly for them. Unfortunately the chemicals that are so often used can be deadly for everyone. Few people read the label and often just point and shoot. They are placing us all at great risk, especially children.

How does the cost usually compare?

Usually there is not much difference, although our techniques are more involved than most chemical pesticide companies. We make every effort to remain competitive.

Do you have any advice for people who normally call an exterminator who uses traditional methods to get rid of pests in their home?

Yes, don't! If you care about the well-being of your family and the world we all live in then consider using safer products, nontoxic products to control pests. If the company you are currently using won't change then call us at 401-315-2400 or check out our website.

The use of certain widespread chemicals often cause workers to become sick. That just doesn't happen with natural products. We have friendly, knowledgeable, licensed staff to help you. We offer free no-obligation inspections and will advise you on the best way to approach your problem. Our techniques and products will not affect you or your family or our environment. Incidentally, users of chemical pesticides have been consistently linked to Parkinson's disease (source http://www.pdf.org/environment_parkinsons_tanner).
